Wool Gathering Vintage Army Cot #127, in Climate Beneficial ™ Wool
$2,200.00

We thrilled to launch our latest Vintage Army Cot, the Wool Gathering Cot #127; a unique collaboration with Fibershed and the Climate Beneficial ™ ** rich range of wool materials.

This cot, circa 1950 has been refinished, using a rubbed treatment to show hints of its past; the metal has been polished and we have added all new brass screws. The mix of metals plays beautifully in contrast to the bed of undyed Climate Beneficial ™ Wool in plain weave. We have utilized the selvage edge to bring the fringe-like detail into  focus and combined a contrasting length of naturally dyed Climate Beneficial ™ (from Lani’s Lana) down the center

A new layer of cotton canvas provides support while the Climate Beneficial ™ Wool provides the comfort and healing–when you relax upon it; and in knowing that this cloth is part of a movement to create soil health and mitigate the impacts of Climate Change.

**Climate Beneficial ™ Wool is a verification that ensures this wool is raised on landscapes working with Carbon Farm Plans. This wool is part of a regenerative ag process sequestering atmospheric carbon back into the soil, where it belongs, mitigating the impacts of Climate Change..

Climate Beneficial ™ Wool. Restore.  Heal.  Repeat.

Copy of original folding instructions and a print of an original watercolor & charcoal mixed media gestural rendering are included as our “Gift with Purchase” and a gentle reminder of the uniqueness of this piece. .

The frame and metal fasteners have been sanded and refreshed; the new brass screws add a ‘rivet’ like detail that gives a nod to the signature Levi’s denim. Cot circa 1950.

Vintage Army Cot with Woven Leather Strapping, #21 & #53
from $2,600.00

One cot in stock!

Made in San Francisco, by hand, a one of a kind interior essential, by Beth Miles.

The frames are circa 1950 and have been salvaged, sanded and refreshed to remove the ‘wear & tear. The rubbed finish leaves a hint of its past; we’ve added brass hardware to give contrast and an elevated feel which also honors their service. Hand cut, undyed, veg-tanned leather strapping is woven and secured with more brass hardware to create the perfect, bench seating.

The leather will age and change in color to a richer, honey hue. The naturally occurring range of color in the leather moves across the weaving, creating a gorgeous high & low effect that evolves and deepens with time.

Veg-tanned leather is universally regarded as the most environmentally friendly option and is biodegradable due to the natural substances used in its creation. Robust & strong, this leather will hold up over a lifetime. Our cots should be treated with oil and will develop a unique patina, which adds to its character.

We make a practice of ‘returning the hand to the made.’

Maybe my love of these cots is mingled in my family’s history? It’s probably not a coincidence that my favorite furniture shape is a daybed or chaise which both hint to this simple form that held me during my childhood.

Eco-tanned wool shearlings on deadstock wool tweed & cotton canvas
The frame, circa 1950 has been refreshed to remove the ‘wear & tear if its service. The rubbed finish leaves a hint of the surplus green and we’ve added brass hardware to give contrast and an elevated feel which also honors the cot’s history.

We created a new, strong canvas base (to replace the original threadbare canvas) upon which we have added a rich ivory wool tweed woven with flecks of rose and sand colored wool. Eco-tanned wool shearlings, from a small farm in Gotland Sweden have been appliquéd onto the tweed, traveling across the surface as their shape allows, dropping off the sides at times and wrapping around the cot frame.

The natural curl and wildness of the shearling is celebrated — giving the impression that the wool is simply tossed onto the cot.
The shearling is edged in deadstock Ses Petites Mains striped bias binding to give a clean finish and also create a distinct division between the materials. The resulting highs and lows feel like cartography; the mix of materials create a range of elevations; and the varying textiles create depth, texture, and tactile interest.

A bed of luxury--sustainable, enduring, beautiful and wild--the Wool Gathering Vintage Army Cot #91 is Luxury Reimagined, healing, chic and unbelievably comfortable.

Gift with Purchase - Beth Miles documents each cot she designs with a watercolor and charcoal gestural painting; you will receive a signed and numbered print of your cot as a way of showing appreciation for your support of our small design/build firm.

Care - Fabric should be spot cleaned only, do not agitate.
