Vintage Sling Chair, Veg-tanned Leather #1 & #2
Vintage Sling Chair #1, sitting upon our Climate Beneficial ™ Wool ‘Black Sheep’ Shearling rug.
Introducing a new, vintage collection of Sling Chairs—creatively restored in our San Francisco shop.
Vintage Sling Chairs, #1 & #2, one-of-a kind designs, built to last.
These pieces were salvaged from my favorite spot: I immediately saw their unique value as they sat somewhat lost and forlorn-looking. After a careful review to ensure the frames had strength and integrity to them, I brought them to my shop and began the process of ‘Reimagining’ them.
The sculptural teak frame has been sanded and oiled. There is a gentle articulation to the chair, which adds to the depth of comfort that it delivers. The frame has been refinished with vegetable-tanned leather —the straps are zero-waste pieces from the production of our Vintage Army Cots and the main sling shape has been cut by hand to create the perfect drape.
As in all our pieces, we love working with the leather in its undyed but conditioned form which produces a range of natural leather colors that move across the frame and add to the piece’s surface detail. Over time, and with care, the colors will deepen into a richer patina.

Gift with Purchase - Beth Miles documents each piece of furniture that she designs with a watercolor and charcoal gestural painting; you will receive a signed and numbered print of your Sling Chair as a way of showing appreciation for your support of our small design/build firm.
The leather straps are zero-waste pieces from the construction of our Vintage Cots—we strive to find use for every ounce of material. The notations and marks on the leather are intentional, and reflect the life that was lived. The naturally occurring range of color in the leather moves across the surface & straps, creating a gorgeous high & low effect that evolves and deepens with time. The leather will age and shift in color to a richer, honey hue.
Veg-tanned leather is universally regarded as the most environmentally friendly option and is biodegradable due to the natural substances used in its creation. Robust & strong, this leather will hold up over a lifetime. Purchase our leather conditioning package to care for your Grange Home vegetable tanned piece.
