Vintage Sling Chair, Veg-tanned Leather #1 & #2

Vintage Sling Chair #1, sitting upon our Climate Beneficial ™ Wool ‘Black Sheep’ Shearling rug.

Introducing a new, vintage collection of Sling Chairs—creatively restored in our San Francisco shop.

Vintage Sling Chairs, #1 & #2, one-of-a kind designs, built to last.

These pieces were salvaged from my favorite spot: I immediately saw their unique value as they sat somewhat lost and forlorn-looking. After a careful review to ensure the frames had strength and integrity to them, I brought them to my shop and began the process of ‘Reimagining’ them.

The sculptural teak frame has been sanded and oiled. There is a gentle articulation to the chair, which adds to the depth of comfort that it delivers. The frame has been refinished with vegetable-tanned leather —the straps are zero-waste pieces from the production of our Vintage Army Cots and the main sling shape has been cut by hand to create the perfect drape.

As in all our pieces, we love working with the leather in its undyed but conditioned form which produces a range of natural leather colors that move across the frame and add to the piece’s surface detail. Over time, and with care, the colors will deepen into a richer patina.

A lumbar pillow is the final detail in this modern-day recliner that just might be your new favorite easy chair. The pillow*, made of a mix of Climate Beneficial ™ Wool, in Fog and deadstock Pink Sand Tweed, and filled with Climate Beneficial ™ Wool fill is attached to the frame with vegetable-tanned leather ties. You can move the pillow up or down the frame to find the ideal position for maximum comfort.

*Pillow can be customized; email us your request.

A Gift with Purchase—A numbered print of the Vintage Sling Chair accompanies each purchase. Painted by Beth Miles on the pages of Pencil Points, a vintage architectural magazine, these mixed media pieces are a reminder of the uniqueness of the piece.
